On July 1, 2012, nearly all public places in Indiana, including restaurants and workplaces, will be smoke-free. This change comes as a result of the state's first ever statewide smoke-free air law, House Enrolled Act 1149. Hoosiers will now be able to enjoy smoke-free air and reduce their risk of developing chronic diseases associated with breathing secondhand smoke.
The new law will be enforced through the Indiana Alcohol and Tobacco Commission. Details, can be found at www.in.gov/atc. A FREE smoking cessation program is available at 1-800-QUIT-NOW or www.quitnowindiana.com.
